The Best Small Pressure Washers Buyers Guide and FAQ
What is a good PSI for a small pressure washer?
When purchasing your first small pressure washer you want to make sure it has enough pressure (also known as BAR or PSI) to get the job at hand done.
But how much is enough pressure? What is a good pressure for your small pressure washer?
This will all depend on what you are planning in using your pressure washers for. If you want something too deep to clean your concrete, decking, or exterior walls, then you’ll want a slightly higher PSI than if you just want something to clean the car, fences, and water the plants.
Either way, you’ll want something that will remove the dirt and grime from whatever you want to clean. Having something with large pressure makes it easy to get most cleaning jobs done but small pressure washers are usually less powerful.
You can also get some units that come with dirt blaster or turbo nozzles.
A good PSI for a small pressure washer is 110-130 BAR
If you take into account that you’ll need around 100 BAR, which is considered light duty, to clean garden furniture, garden tools, motorbikes, bicycles, and rubbish bins, then something more powerful will be better for all-round home use.
110 – 130 BAR is great for cleaning cars, boats, lawnmowers, fences, guttering or swimming pools, and hot tubs (if cleaned regularly, not for heavily grime-covered ones) and much better for general home use from a small pressure washer.
If you are looking for something a little more heavy-duty, then a small pressure washer probably isn’t for you and you should maybe look into a petrol pressure washer instead. Go for 130+ BAR as this will be perfect for cleaning brickwork, concrete, patios, and decking.
How much PSI does it take to clean concrete?
If you are looking to clean the concrete around your home, maybe your patio or driveway or perhaps you have a tennis court! Then you’ll likely want something with a little more power than a small pressure washer, as well as a higher flow rate to help shorten the amount of time spend working.
Check out our list of electric pressure washers to find something with some more power and higher flow and better for heavy-duty cleaning.
You’ll need a minimum of 1800 PSI if you want to clean concrete.
These higher PSI values are normally found in larger units, but you can find suitable small pressure washers that will be capable of cleaning concrete but it might just take you slightly longer to carry out the clean.
Benefits of Choosing a Compact Pressure Washer
When you buy a pressure washer you are buying some great cleaning tools for your home and there are some great benefits to buying a compact electric pressure washer over a, generally more expensive, larger pressure washer.
Light Duty Perfection
Small pressure washers are great for light-duty tasks and as such become the perfect tool for keeping your home and garden clean.
Easy to use
Small pressure washers are super easy to use and if you are trying to just carry out a quick job, having one that is easy to use is necessary.
They are generally easy to use because they include fewer settings, fewer buttons, and a much more simple plug-and-play style method to get going.
Car Cleaning
Small pressure washers are great for cleaning cars. With them being small, the ease of use in getting it out makes it super convenient for small cleaning jobs.
The water and pressure that these small power washer will use make them perfect for cleaning cars, vans, caravans, bikes, and bicycles.
Storing it
With them being smaller, a small power washer is easy to use and easy to store. When you buy a pressure washer you need to think about the amount of room you have to store it and when they are small, they fit in more spaces.
This is one of the best things about a small power washer in being super easy to store, so great you can even forget where you stored it.
Power
Even though they are small the power you can get from these machines can be quite incredible when you consider the size.
Some of them are suitable enough to even clean your driveways, so for home use, they are perfect.
Warranty
You’ll find that with most small pressure washers you will get around a two-year warranty and at the very least a 12 month one.
Making sure you get a warranty on your pressure washer is important and you want to make sure you can get it fixed if it happens to break.
It’s also a great way to see which companies believe in their products, as you can pretty much guarantee that a product is going to be high quality if you are getting a 24 month + warranty.
Volume
Generally, the volume of a small pressure washer is lower than that of a larger unit.
This is good for use in more built-up areas where you are concerned about the noise pollution on your neighbours.
